The year your tax status changes is the year when mistakes are most likely, and when planning ahead is most worthwhile. When you arrive: how your asset cost is set and how to get benefits. When you leave: how departure tax is calculated and what to do with your Canadian home and RRSP. Sheng Qian CPA works with you at both ends, arrival and departure, to put these matters in order and file them properly.

About the fees: The amounts above are in CAD. Personal tax return fees include HST; fees for non-resident services are before HST (as stated on our website). A "from" price is the starting point for common situations; many assets, many foreign-currency transactions or catching up on past years add to the work. The actual fee is as set out in the written quote before work begins; if the work goes beyond what was agreed, we explain first and continue only once you confirm.
Why talk to us early
Many numbers are set on the day your status changes. The market value of your assets on the day you land, and on the day you leave, determines your tax for many years to come. Once that day has passed, putting together evidence is often difficult.
The years before and after are linked. Income before landing, benefits in the first year, the T1135 in the second year; disposals before leaving, the return for the year you leave, rent and property sales after leaving — when the same team handles them, everything lines up from one year to the next.
A clear division of work. We are responsible for Canadian filings and planning; tax and foreign exchange formalities in China and Hong Kong are handled by qualified local advisers there; property transactions and wills are handled by lawyers, and we work with them.
